“I’m a hard-core feminist! In Bangladesh, sex is taboo. People do it – of course – but don’t talk about it, not in any way. This creates a lot of ignorance and unpleasant situations. Many think homosexuality is a bad thing, or they think you’ll be punished in the afterlife for masturbation. I’m a practising Muslim but at the same time I’m very open about sexuality.
So, I joined an organisation that works with and for young people. We gave briefings, spoke to young people and did interventions. Information and awareness on sexuality is very important. Youngsters received our work very well, but we also got a lot of questions. Some people thought that we’re poisoning the young.
Unfortunately this can’t be my real-time job. Instead I joined civil service and after completing my study at ISS, I’m going to continue working for the government. People expect me to do well professionally and get more degrees.
The organisation is still running, just without me. But via Facebook I still talk to young people. My mission continues!”
