Berry Kriesels (30, PhD student Erasmus Medical Centre)

“People are surprised when I tell them I have 3 children. My eldest is 9, I’ve got a 7 year old and a 4 year old. To be honest, I was never an ambitious guy but when I became a dad I wanted to build a career. I want my children to succeed in life and therefore be a good role model to them. When I was 21, I only had an LTS diploma so I had to take a 21 plus test to get into Hogeschool Leiden, to study bioinformatics. After graduation I took a Master’s in Wageningen and now I’m at Erasmus MC doing a PhD in sport achievements and micro biota in combination with personal genomics. Besides being a part-time PhD student I alsof run my own company (Omnigen).
At the end of the day, if my kids want to work as trash men when they grow up, that’s fine by me. As long as they are happy.”
