“I studied Economics at Erasmus University. In 2000 I went on a 6-month exchange to Trinity College in Dublin, Ireland. At the time I’d already been with my boyfriend Dennis for five years, we even lived together in a student house. To say goodbye to him was very hard, I got very emotional and cried all the way on the plane to Ireland. A couple of months later, Dennis came to visit me, unexpectedly. He acted secretive and was a bit nervous too. He drove me to a helicopter pad and that’s when I got a clue. When we were up in the air, right above Trinity College, he asked me to marry him – it was awesome! Back on the ground, he had arranged a picnic with champagne and of course I said yes when he proposed. We got married after I graduated and recently celebrated our 12 ½ years anniversary. Our son, Tim, just turned 5.”
